The Atlanta Braves (my team) were eliminated today from playoff contention, just prior to the final weekend of the regular season. Just a few weeks ago it would have been almost inconceivable to imagine typing that sentence this late in the season, as it seemed then that the team had pretty much written the season off as a rebuilding year. Their pitching was pretty decent (spearheaded in part by the phenom Tommy Hanson pictured above), but a pretty pathetic offense threatened to keep them around a .500 record at best. But then they made a couple trades (especially getting Adam LaRoche, a former Brave, back) and all of a sudden the lineup had a little punch, and things started going their way. If they'd played just a little bit better in the first half, their late run would've put them back in the playoffs for the first time in four years; but even falling a little short makes this fan optimistic about their chances next year, when they should be adding Jason Heyward, a young slugger, to complement their budding ace Hanson. Sometime in teh next week, I'll have to go back and review my predictions from teh start of the season (I don't think I did too well), but the Braves late run of success has me enthused about watching the upcoming playoffs, even if they won't be there. I'm not sure who I'm pulling for to go all the way, but I'll be happy if someone knocks off the Yankees. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Dr John,
I feel the same way when it comes to the Mariners here in Seattle. They were alot more fun to watch this year and hopefully some of the young guns will come up next year and the team makes a great run through to the post season. I also 100x agree with the comment of yours about someone knocking off the Yankees
