A short while ago, my niece Natalie redecorated her room and sent me these pictures. As you can see, she's a pretty creative interior designer.
Did you ever see The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T? It's a Dr. Seuss written movie that unfolds as a youngster's dream. Click the title for a preview. Natalie's room doesn't actually look like the film's set design, but for some reason it reminds me of it (possibly it's the pastel colors).
The black sections are done with a kind of paint that replicates a chalkboard-- you can write on those parts and easily erase it later. How cool is that? And why didn't they have that when I was a kid?
I thought of something else the design reminds me of: one of Cliff Sterrett's stylized Sunday Polly & Her Pals strips, like the one found here. Again, it's not that it looks exactly the same, but it reflects the same kind of wildly imaginative creativity that is the mark of any good artist. Natalie, I hope you are putting that talent to work on other projects!

Well, Dr. John, we didn't have chalkboard type of paint when you were small, but that didn't stop you from decorating the walls of the family room down stairs. Don't you remember the white plasterboard walls that you children scribbled all over with crayons and magic marker. Dad liked it and didn't cover it up with paneling for a long time. Mom
