Wednesday Philosophy

Denis Diderot (1713-1784) was the philosopher whose major project was to compile the Encyclopedie, collecting contributions from many of his Enlightenment contemporaries. Here's a small sample of the way he thought:

"Genius is present in every age, but the men
carrying it within them remain benumbed
unless extraordinary events occur to heat
up and melt the mass so that it flows forth.
