A Thought for the Day

I consider Ben Shahn (1898-1969) one of the greatest of American artists, having produced striking and provocative images with pen, paint, and camera. I also think he was a thoughtful commentator on social and political matters, including this particular insight:

"The degree of non-c0nformity present--
and tolerated-- in a society might be looked
upon as a symptom of its state of health."
