A Thought for Sunday Morning

French philosopher Jacques Derrida (1930-2004) took a lot of heat for the arguments he made about language especially in relation to his theory of deconstructionism. But, as someone who takes a lot of photographs, I think he's on to something with this point (which also provides some evidence of the validity of deconstruction):

"Whatever precautions you take so the
photograph will look like this or that, there
comes a moment when the photograph
surprises you. It is the other's gaze that
wins out and decides."
