Soup Diary 090802
One of the great philosophical questions is whether sensual gratification is twice as sweet if deferred. That's how I was hoping to open this review of the Stuffed Banana Pepper Soup I had at Curry's Restaurant last night (you see, I was actually crafting my lede before the first mouthful). I ate there several weeks ago, and Ben ordered a cup, but for some reason I did not. It looked good, though, and the small taste Ben gave me was certainly provocative, so I really looked forward to going back and giving it a try. It's certainly exotic enough (the first time I struck out trying to find a picture on the web-- Google has no references to the stuff at all!), and actually quite tasty all-in-all. But it never quite matched up with my lofty expectations, and so gets marked down as something of a disappointment-- though to be fair, that's probably only in relation to my unfair expectations, and no fault of the soup's inherent merit. If I go back, I'd definitely order it again and, since I won't be quite so giddy with anticipation, maybe it'll bowl me over next time.
