Quote of the Day

Today's quotation comes from the renowned literary critic Alfred Kazin, often associated with the group known as the "New York intellectuals," though he stood apart from that group in some significant ways, especially with respect to his political moorings. Anyway, here's something he said that's worthy of consideration:

"To write is in some way to cut the seemingly
automatic pattern of violence, destructiveness,
and death wish. To write is to put the seeming
insignificance of human existence into a different
perspective. It is the need, the wish, and, please
God, the ability, to reorder our physical faith."
