Classic Comedy

Some years back, cultural critic Greil Marcus wrote a book about what he called the "old, weird America," referring specifically to the period before the rise of mass media and the kind of cultural homogeneity and standardization that it promulgated. Back then, there was a wealth of creativity and regional diversity that seems truly bizarre to modern eyes or ears (Marcus was particularly interested in the effects of folk music from those earlier generations). Well, this clip doesn't go back that far-- maybe fifty years-- and it is a product of the early days of television; but it's definitely weird. Give credit to the genius of Ernie Kovacs for that:
