I've taken up the challenge of paying tribute to the wonderful character actors who ply their craft in contemporary films, and the second actor of the current generation that I want to call your attention to (after Carlos Jacott) is Tracy Walter. He never seems to have a role that lasts more than a few scenes or lines, but he always makes the most of them. You'll likely recognize his face if not his name, fro such films as Erin Brockovich, Midnight Run, Silence of the Lambs, City Slickers, and dozens of other movies and lots of TV shows as well (he was the guy with the cough who won the impossible contest on the first season of WKRP). Here's one of his more memorable bits of business, from the Alex Cox classic Repo Man:
