Below are the seedings for the fourth bracket in the Battle of the Bands that will unfold next season on Dr. John's Record Shelf. We'll be determining the best British (or Commonwealth) band from the period 1954 to 1974 (though to be honest, there isn't anyone on the roster who pre-dates 1960). I'll be posting first round songs in the near future. I call this set, for no particular reason, the "Pop Bracket." Seedings are the numbers in parentheses, and are based on a combination of popular and critical success along with influence. Feel free to offer comments:
The Beatles (1)
The Band (2)
Buffalo Springfield (3)*
Herman's Hermits (4)
The Searchers (5)
Fairport Convention (6)
Traffic (7)
Roxy Music (8)
Spencer Davis Group (9)
The Troggs (10)
The Easybeats (11)
Status Quo (12)
The Shadows (13)
The Move (14)
Vanity Fair (15)
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich (16)
*An admission: Buffalo Springfield probably should have been in last season's American competition but somehow (I can't explain it) got left out. So, by virtue of two of their memebrs (Neil Young and Bruce Palmer) being Canadian, I figured they deserved a slot in this year's tourney.
You can see the other three brackets here, here, and here.
