Phil Ochs may be my favorite folk singer from the sixties. His songs were often political and always heartfelt. He's not the greatest singer, but there's real passion in his performances that appeals to me, and he could occasionally rock out a bit too. This song is taken from an old Alfred Noyes poem that I remember reading in English class sometime back in my middle school days and that Ochs set to music for his second album. He wasn't the type of guy to get invitations to appear on network television which makes me wonder where this might've aired originally (I'm guessing either public TV or a Canadian station, but I could be wrong).
