When I was a kid, the first name that I associated with tennis was Pancho Gonzales. When I started to play the game, my first racket was a Pancho Gonzales signature model, to which I remained loyal through two or three replacements. I don't play much anymore, as my knees started giving out a couple years ago, but I'm often tempted to get out there regardless, especially when I remember that Gonzales was a competitive pro until he was about fifty. Anyway, there was
a really nice article in this morning's
New York Times on Gonzales as he is being memorialized at the US Open currently underway, and I thought, if you are a fan too, you might want to check it out.
