The Velvet Underground
We wrapped up Round Three of the battle of the bands on Dr. John's Record Shelf last night. Our goal: to determine the best American rock band between 1954 and 1974. After yesterday's matchups, the Velvet Underground (seeded no. 1) and the Lovin' Spoonful (2) will be facing each other to see who represents the Northeast Bracket in the Final Four, after vanquishing the New York Dolls (13) and Three Dog Night (3) respectively.
The Lovin' Spoonful
Songs performed in the competition included "What Goes On" by the Velvets, "We Are the Mystery Girls" by the Dolls, "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind" by the Spoonful, and "Shambala" by Three Dog Night. In the next few days, songs will be selected for the Elite Eight level of the contest , which will unfold over the next couple of weeks. Within a month, we'll know the victor. If you are in SW Montana, you can listen in on the Battle on Dr. John's Record Shelf, Sunday evenings from 5-7 pm at 90.9 on your FM dial.
