Thought for Thursday

It's often said that academics and intellectuals tend to be radical in their views (a "fact" which doesn't match very well with my own experiences on college campuses). But here's the eminent French political philosopher Raymond Aron offering a possible explanation for why it may be true, to whatever degree it is:

"The myth of the Revolution serves as a
refuge for utopian intellectuals; it becomes
the mysterious, unpredictable intercessor
between the real and the ideal."
