Wednesday's Thought for the Day

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) is famous for rejecting the comforts of modern life (such as they were) to go and live a solitary life by Walden Pond. In his solitude, he came up with ideas like the following:

"Shams and delusions are esteemed for soundest
truths, while reality is fabulous.... By closing the
eyes and slumbering, and consenting to be deceived
by the shows, men establish and confirm their
daily life of routine and habit everywhere,
which still is built on purely illusory foundations."
