Round Three of the Battle of the Bands on Dr. John's Record Shelf commenced last night with contests involving the no. 1 seeds from both the Northwest and Midwest Brackets-- and only one advanced. Creedence Clearwater Revival continued to cruise, stopping Country Joe and the Fish's (13) Cinderella run, but Chicago was taken down by the Crickets (5), becoming the first top seed to be knocked out of the tournament, albeit in a split decision (Creedence was a unanimous winner).
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Songs played included "Travelin' Band" by Creedence vs. "Rockin' Round the World" by the Fish and "Not Fade Away" by the Crickets over "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago. The pace of the competition is accelerating, with Round Three set to wind up over the next three programs. Right now, Creedence Clearwater Revival is looking like a powerhouse, but there are still two other top seeds (the Byrds and Velvet Underground) for them to possibly contend with down the road. Check back here next Monday for the next set of results!
