I really like self-reflexive comic strips, though I 'd be hard-pressed to explain why. So I got a big kick out of Nancy this morning. The only thing that would have made it better was if it was still being drawn by its creator Ernie Bushmiller, though the Gilchrist Brothers are keeping it true to its original spirit.
By the way, that "three rocks" motif has fascinated a lot of folks over the years, including another great cartoonist named Bill Griffith, creator of Zippy. He pays visual tribute to Bushmiller above, and below you can read an essay he wrote extolling the virtues of this classic strip (click to enlarge):
