No one made better films in the 1940s than Preston Sturges. The writer-director had a great skewed view of the social relations that comprise our so-called civilization, though he was never mean in portraying that view on screen. Here's a classic scene from Palm Beach Story involving the Ale & Quail Club, who, on a all-male getaway vacation, encounter and adopt Claudette Colbert as their new mascot (or something). Lots of great, familiar faces here-- guys who appeared in virtually all of Sturges' movies-- including the great William Demerest:
