Last night I drove down to Idaho Falls with Rick and Bill to catch a Rookie League game between the Idaho Falls Chukars and the Orem Owlz (not typos- that's how they're spelled). It was fan appreciation night, and a much bigger crowd than I anticipated, leading to a very pleasant evening of baseball, good friends, and some picture taking.
The Owlz jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first, and it looked like it might be a rout, but the Chukars' pitcher righted himself, and started mowing down batters (which would last through the rest of the game, though with different pitchers coming in to throw an inning or two).
The stadium in Idaho Falls is really nice, just a couple of years old. I was expecting it to be something like a high school field with bleachers, but though small, it's quite comfortable with good concessions and a lively atmosphere. I'm looking forward to going back next year (the current season ends this week).
Eventually the Chukars offense exploded, and they came back to win the game 5-2. It might've been the juggling relief pitcher in the bullpen who signaled that the Owlz weren't all that gung-ho. Or he could've just been enjoying the nice evening in his own special way.
