Soup Diary 100902

My friend Rick is visiting from back east and we were invited over to my other friend Bill's house for dinner. His mom made some of her homemade cucumber soup, served over boiled potatoes and quite tasty. The reason why she made this for Rick is because of a story that goes back some years, when he, Bill and I traveled to Toronto and visited the Polish neighborhood there to do a little grocery shopping (Bill grew up on the east side of Buffalo and living now in Montana has limited access to real ethnic food). While there we stopped for a meal at a Polish restaurant, and Rick ended up ordering about four bowls of cucumber soup. Every time the waitress came over to see how everything was, he ordered another bowl of soup. The rest of us moved on to entrees and dessert, but Rick just kept ordering soup. Even I, with my well-known proclivities for enjoying a cup of soup, never took it to such an extreme. But the payoff is, that Rick gets cucumber soup when he visits Bill and his mom. Nothing wrong with that.
