Soup Diary 100102

I've been in Buffalo for over two weeks and I've only been able to make two trips to Fables for soup (on my third trip the cafe was closed!). Luckily the second time featured one of my top two varieties: the creamy black bean. I believe I've rhapsodized about this stuff before so suffice to say that I was entirely satisfied (and I even got an extra slice of bread!). Since I don't have anything to add on the soup, I will mention that the iced tea at Fables is almost as good as the soup, fresh brewed and often tinged with a hint of fruit (raspberry, peach, or whatever). Like their soups, their beverages put most other places to shame. With any luck I can get down there at least one more time this trip. I've got my fingers crossed for Sweet Potato Pablano.

Other soup news: I almost forgot to mention that my Mom made a pot of Chick Pea Soup for me and my brother a week or so ago. As always, Mom's soup can compete with anything I get at a restaurant, and this was no exception. In fact I may try to make it myself at some point. Also, among my Christmas gifts was a soup cookbook from Nick and family, so I have no excuse not to try some its more interesting concoctions once I get back to my own kitchen.
