Classic Bob and Doug

Back in the late seventies, SCTV was one of the gems of televised comedy. It was a initially a syndicated show produced in Canada (Toronto and later Edmonton), and as a consequence was subject to "Canadian content" rules that said a certain percentage of the program had to be specifically Canadian in nature. "The Great White North" was a sketch performed by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas to meet that requirement and was kept short so it could easily be snipped out by American stations that picked up the program. Much to everyone's surprise, maybe especially Moranis and Thomas, the characters of Bob and Doug McKenzie became something of a phenomenon, leading to records, personal appearances, and even a movie.
