Wednesday's Words of Wisdom

I kind of hate to endorse the philosophy of someone like George Washington Plunkitt, noted bigwig with the Tammany political machine around the turn of the last century (that's him in the top hat below); but it's hard to dispute the truth of this particular statement:

"The fact is that a reformer can't last in politics.
He can make a show for awhile, but he always
comes down like a rocket. Politics is as much a
regular business as the grocery or the dry goods
or the drug business. You've got to be trained up
to it or you're sure to fail."
