
No doubt about it, Milton Caniff was the master of the adventure strip, starting with his classic creation
Terry and the Pirates. Here are what I believe are the first four Sunday pages from that series.

This sequence introduces one of the greatest villains in all of popular culture-- the beautiful bud deadly Dragon Lady.

Caniff would produce
Terry through the World War II years (when Terry became a pilot), then move on to create Steve Canyon, a quintessential Cold War character. Of course, a lot of the fun in Caniff's work came as a result of the supporting cast of characters, both good guys and bad, and that's already evident in these early examples of his work.
