Maximilien Robespierre (1758-1794) was one of the key figures involved in the French Revolution, heavily influenced by the philosophes of the Enlightenment. I think he was right on with this statement:

I thought this guy was one of the worst tyrants of the French Revolution.......Mom
Like a lot of political leaders, he let his commitment to an ideology take over his common sense-- a tragic story too many times repeated in politics.
