Battle of the Bands Update

The Beatles

Round One came to an end this week in the Battle of the Bands being competed on my radio show Dr. John's Record Shelf. The last two groups to advance are the Beatles (seeded no. 1 in the Pop bracket) and the Spencer Davis Group (9), who knocked off Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich (16) and Roxy Music (8). Neither contest was close, the Beatles winning by a 10-1 margin, while Spencer Davis Group scored a 9-2 victory.

The Spencer Davis Group

The songs in competition this week were "Get Back" by the Beatles, "Hold Tight" by Dave Dee et. al., "Gimme Some Lovin" by SDG, and "Virginia Plain" by Roxy. So, in Round Two, which will start in mid-January, the Pop Bracket will look like this: The Beatles (1) v. Spencer Davis Group (9); The Searchers (5) v. Herman's Hermits (4); the Easybeats (11) v. Buffalo Springfield (3); and the Troggs (10) v. the Band (2). I'll be determining the songs for each band in the next week or so; feel free to make suggestions in the comments section. Next Monday, I'll plan on posting the full brackets with tunes.
