Her's a nice short, to-the-point comment from Dave Van Ronk (1936-2002), one of the major figures in the great folk scare of the 1960s (though his implicit advise applies much more broadly):

"You can't be afraid of failure and you
can't be afraid of success, because either
one gets in the way of your work."
