As many of you know, movies started talking in 1927. The biggest star in the world at that time was Charlie Chaplin, who resisted the trend towards sound, continuing to make fantastic silent features until 1940's The Great Dictator. But there was one scene in Modern Times from 1936 to which he lent his voice, the one seen below-- the first time audiences heard Chaplin's voice on-screen. I can't imagine that someone could fail to be entertained by this performance. The whole movie is fantastic, but this scene is the capper:
