A Thought for the Day

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) was something of a man about town (the town being London) and bon vivant (at least according to his biographer Thomas Boswell). But he was also a man of letters, and this quote is suggestive of his more thoughtful side:

"A wise man will make haste to forgive,
because he knows the true value of time,
and will not suffer it to pass away in
unnecessary pain."
