Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers was a launching pad for a whole bunch of careers in jazz-- it's almost impossible to find a hot young player between the fifties and seventies who didn't put in a little time in that group. Here's one of the classic line-ups, featuring Bobby Timmons on piano, Lee Morgan on trumpet, Jymie Merritt on bass, and Benny Golson on tenor sax. Truly cool stuff from way back in 1958:
