I'm going to guess that, with this statement, composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was targeting critics, but it certainly applies more broadly:
"Those who enjoy their own emotionally badhealth and who habitually fill their own mindswith the rank poisons of suspicion, jealousyand hatred, as a rule take umbrage at thosewho refuse to do likewise, and they find aperverted relief in trying to denigrate them."
