Friday Philosophy

Today's quote is in the category of things that are worth thinking about, whether you end up agreeing with the idea or not (and keep in mind he was writing long before home computers became ubiquitous, let alone cell phones and Facebook and such). It's from the Canadian communications theorist Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980). :

"As the unity of the modern world becomes
increasingly a technological rather than a
social affair, the techniques of the arts
provide the most valuable means of
insight into the real direction of our
own collective purposes."
