Battle of the Bands Update

The Kinks

Round Three of the Battle of the Bands on my radio show Dr. John's Record Shelf continued last night with two Empire Bracket contests. In the first, no. 1 seed Led Zeppelin handily defeated the Faces (5) by a 5-2 score, while the Kinks (2) whitewashed Jethro Tull (6) by a 7-0 margin. As a result, this will be the only Bracket where the top two seed will square off in the quarterfinals.
Led Zeppelin

The songs in competition this week included "Immigrant Song" by Zeppelin, "Stay With Me" by the Faces, "David Watts" by the Kinks, and "Locomotive Breath" by Tull. Next week, Round Three will wrap up when we determine the Pop Bracket finalists from these two pairs: "Ticket to Ride" by the Beatles (1) vs. "Don't Throw Your Love Away" by the Searchers (5), and "Rocak and Roll Woman" by Buffalo Springfield (3) vs. "With a Girl Like You" by the Troggs (10). By the way, Buffalo Springfield (representing Canada) is the last Commonwealth band still alive in the competition. If you'd like to vote on next week's match-ups, please do so in the comments section.
