Record Shelf Playlists

Dr. John's Record Shelf is my weekly radio program on KDWG, 90.9 FM broadcast from the University of Montana Western. My goal is to offer an eclectic mix of various styles, genres and eras, focusing primarily (but not exclusively) on music that you won't hear anywhere else on the dial (at least not in SW Montana). My co-host, Art Vandelay and I (with the assistance of station flunky Rico Muckman) also provide some additional bits to liven up the show, including Three People I Know (where I mention three people I know), The Cultural Corner (where we engage in lively banter on art, literature and poetry), Dr. John's Top Five (where we take a shot at ranking almost anything), and Record Shelf Theater (where we re-create a scene from some famous movie, play or TV show). Kilroy Was Here!

*Does anyone know the reference, and why it fits?

I believe the phrase "Kilroy was here" is an expression from approximately WWII era. It is a sketch of a head peering over a wall with a nose and fingers over the edge of the wall -like someone peeking at you. It is apt here because it looks like Nicky is just looking over a wall (minus the nose and fingers). I seem to have heard once that it had to do with malfunctions of certain wartime electronics or aircraft stuff (kind of like a gremlin playing/destroying stuff and confounding the mechanical staff) but don't know if that is actually where it began.
