Since I mentioned the Duomo in a previous post, I thought I might add some pictures from that impressive place. Let's start with one from the outside:
Inside, there are no pews (it seems that it serves more as a tourist attraction today than a working church, though I'm sure they use some of the side chapels for services):
Here is a picture of the interior of the famous dome designed by Brunelleschi (another key Renaissance figure). Apparently no one knows for sure what engineering alchemy he employed to keep the dome afloat (so to speak), given its size and weight. However he did it, the way it's decorated inside is quite the sight to see:

Those Italians sure liked to paint on the ceilings (and walls and doors and windows and pretty much everywhere else as well). Does anyone anywhere do that anymore?
