A Quote for Sunday

This comment by Mark Twain (1835-1910) is undoubtedly true-- I wonder how many conditions can replace the premise here, so that the rest remains true? 

"The man who sets out to carry a cat by its tail 
learns something that will always be useful and 
which never will grow dim or doubtful."
