I'm not entirely sure that jambalaya qualifies exactly as soup, but it's close enough for me to comment on the excellent bowl I enjoyed a couple days ago at the Pennsic Wars in western Pennsylvania (more on that later). It was a group effort with several campers contributing to the final mix, and they were good enough to separate out a batch without any shellfish for those of us who don't eat the stuff. I certainly didn't miss the shrimp, given the rich blend of sausage, chicken, and vegetables that was left. Eaten out of doors amongst some new friends made it even better. It was probably the best meal of my two day visit, and one of the factors that may compel me to go down there again when I get the chance.
