Watching
the OK Go video I posted last week inevitably reminded me of the great Rube Goldberg. Goldberg was one of the greatest cartoonists ever, and while he created a number of classic strips and characters, he is probably best remembered for his series of convoluted inventions.

Today, engineers study his designs, which proceed with flawless logic but comical complexity.

Goldberg was so well-respected by his colleagues that the National Cartoonists Society Cartoonists named their annual award to the year's best cartoonist after him (the Reuben).

Aside from the inventions, his other creations included
Boob McNutt,
Mike and Ike, and
Foolish Questions, which are definitely worth checking out if you can find one of the several collections that have been published.
