Here's a thought from the pen of Michel Eyquem de Montaigne (1533-1592), one of the French philosophers who laid the foundation for the later Enlightenment:
"This noble precept is often cited by Plato:'Do thine own work, and know thyself.'Each of these two parts generally cover the whole duty of man, and each includes the other. He who will do his own work well, discovers that his first lesson is toknow himself, and what is his duty."
