A memorable line from Robert Browning's (1812-1889) "De Gustibus" from 1855:

"Progress, man's distinctive mark alone,
Not God's, and not the beasts': God is, they are,
Man partly is and wholly hopes to be."

John Hajduk: Dillon, Montana; I am a history professor who grew up in Western New York, but now find myself teaching in Western Montana. My primary areas of interest and research are in American cultural history, especially in relation to the intersection of popular culture and politics.
