I'm happy to report that Fables has somewhat redeemed itself in my eyes. about a week ago, I had a truly terrible bowl of soup there, and was worried that it was some kind of harbinger of things to come. But then I had a cup of the Black Bean Chicken Chili, and it was darn good. Maybe not up to the lofty standards set by their run of a couple summers ago (why oh why has Sweet Potato Poblano never returned to the menu?), but a credible contender for repeat orders nonetheless. It was chock full of big chunks of onions, red peppers and celery, along with the beans and chicken, all bound together in a glossy, slightly sweet broth. Here's hoping that this is more indicative of what the current staff is capable of producing, and the Sweet Pea Basil was the aberration.
