Ashley Montagu (1905-1999) was an anthropologist who examined issues of to race and gender in relation to politics. Here's an observation, with which you might agree or disagree, that he made back in 1940:

"The majority of people believe in incredible
things which are absolutely false. The
majority of people daily act in a manner
prejudicial to the general well-being."
