Here's something from perhaps the most famous astronomer in history, Galileo Galilei (1564-1642), one of the giants of the Renaissance. You can tell from this statement, and I mean this affectionately, that Galileo was Italian:
"The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent upon it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do."
