The following is from the eminent cultural historian Christopher Lasch (1932-1994), who taught for many years at University of Rochester (a city I visited earlier today-- perhaps putting me in mind of Lasch):

"Ideologies, however appealing, cannot shape
the whole structure of perceptions and conduct
unless they are embedded in daily experiences
that confirm them."
